Catching fireflies has always seemed to me such a classic and old-fashioned summer activity.
I remember as a little girl chasing down the dusk, fist full of mason jar and eyes aglow with the sparkle of hundreds of tiny lights.
I remember looking forward to sharing this magic with my own children...and yet, I couldn't find many fireflies in Texas and Oklahoma. And those I have found so far in Virginia venture out only once it's quite dark.
So it was on this first day of July, in Asheville, that my children first learned the joy and anticipation of catching (and releasing!) this childhood treasure!
